What is surf therapy?

Surfing is often hailed as therapeutic, a sentiment echoed by surfers worldwide. In our unique aproach however, there’s a lot more to it. Why do we believe that surfing is helpful when combined with therapy, yoga and mindfulness?

  • Scientifically, being in or near to the ocean enhances attention, memory, and creativity, and offers a perspective that helps alleviate stress, depression, and anxiety.

  • Getting physical has been shown to increase focus and concentration, reduce stress and anxiety, and to lift your mood and well-being.

  • Flow states boost mental health by promoting deep focus and fulfillment, reducing stress, and enhancing mindfulness and resilience in therapy.

  • The social aspect is a key component of surf therapy. It fosters connections among participants, enhancing fun and support. Group activities, both in and out of the water, promote bonding and the formation of new, enriching relationships.

How we find your personal flow

Ripple Surf Therapy combines evidence-based psychological techniques with surfing, yoga, and mindfulness in a unique 7 day program. The six pillars of the program are yoga, mindfulness, relaxation, surfing, psycho-education, and group therapy, each complementing the others to enhance overall effectiveness. Surfing not only improves mental health but also prepares participants for therapy sessions by creating a flow state. Psycho-education explores stress, emotions, and mental health, while group therapy focuses on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Yoga sessions, suitable for all levels, help reduce stress and improve mental resilience, and daily mindfulness sessions teach us to be in the moment. The program ensures relaxation and personal time, offering a refreshing and insightful experience.

  • In our programs, we have set a limit of 10 people. We do this to ensure that the groups do not get too large and everyone can receive the shared attention of the therapists.

  • At Ripple, we don't feel the need to speak in terms of disorders, diseases and defects. Instead, we talk about the mental health of our participants, and that falls within a spectrum. Everyone is welcome, whether you're having a very hard time, or you're at a point in your life where you're simply not satisfied, and everything in between.

Our approach is not focused on a specific problem, but is a one-size fits all way of working.

  • The price includes accommodation in our villa, the full program consisting of group therapy sessions, surfing, yoga, mindfulness and psycho-education. Besides that, all meals during your stay and airport transfers are included as well.

What is not included is the flighttickets to reach us.

  • The average age depends on the groups ofcourse. Our minumum age is 18, but we don’t have a maximum age. Everyone who wants to join is more than welcome, regardless of their date of birth.

  • For every program there is the possibility to have a private room, but we encourage connection with other participants. Sharing rooms allows our participants to talk to each other in a more intimate way about what the day has brought them and what they may be up against.

When assigning rooms, we will take into account our participants' preferences and do our best to carefully place people together. Men and women sleep separate.
